Sowing Seed

Luke 8:5-8

“A sower went out to sow his seed. As he was sowing, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the sky ate it up. Other seed fell on the rock; when it sprang up, it withered, since it lacked moisture. Other seed fell among thorns; the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. Still other seed fell on good ground; when it sprang up, it produced a crop: 100 times what was sown.” As He said this, He called out, “Anyone who has ears to hear should listen!”

This parable was spoken by our Lord, Jesus Christ.  He tells us of a farmer who went out to sow his seed. As he did, the seed fell in many different places.  Some was trampled, some was choked, some was eaten, but some did spring up and produce a great harvest.

Christ would later explain this as the Gospel being delivered to people (Gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ).  Some receive it, some don’t, but the message is still delivered.  Our task is to sow everywhere, hoping that some will respond to the good news of Jesus Christ.

Life Community is coming October 28th.  In preparation for our big day we are sowing seed.  We have already delivered 800 light-bulbs in our targeted community and plan on doing a block party this upcoming Saturday (Sept 15th).  In addition to this, we have done one “sneak preview” service and will conduct another one this upcoming Sunday (Sept 16th).  More community service projects and preview services will occur before we launch Life Community on October 28th.

Before we begin weekly services we want to make sure that our church is a church that “sows seed”.  From the very beginning (even in a pre-launch stage) we are building our DNA to be outward focused.  Life Community wants to be a church that sows seed; not just in pre-launch days but for it’s entire history.  We want the good news of Jesus Christ to fly all over Owensboro, therefore we will serve our community with service projects, preach the name of Jesus Christ, and love people where we are.  In fact our mission statement sums it up.  We want to lead people to….

“Live for Christ, Learn from Christ, and Love Christ”…this can only happen if we are willing to sow some seed.

Please be in prayer for us as we press forward into our Block Party and our next Preview Service.  Pray that God gives a launch, full of people, who have responded to some seed being sowed.
