Weekly Update 2/29/16

Off
Greetings Life Community Church,
A lot of good stuff in this weekly update, so make sure you read it all!
We had a fantastic day yesterday!  I was very encouraged with the service on Sunday as I felt The Spirit of God in our presence.  The afternoon was also a blessing as we conducted a 301 class.  301 is all about discovering your “SHAPE” for ministry.  Some great conversations about God’s call and future ministries were discussed!  If you have only been through class 101, I want to encourage you to make a homerun and round all four bases (Class 101-church membership, 201- Spiritual Maturity, 301- Your Ministry, and 401- Your life on mission).

Last night was also amazing.  We held our mid-year family meeting and I was very encouraged.  I wanted to take a few moments to recap what happened last night.

  • we unveiled our new trailer for Sunday morning use!  It looks great!
  • we did some work on our church roll.
  • we amended a small section of by-laws in regards to stewardship team.
  • we amended the budget by a small amount to pay for payroll expenses
  • we added a team member to the youth team
  • we heard great reports of ministry!  I was very encouraged to hear all the exciting things that our teams are doing and how God is moving in this church.
  • I also laid out a 3 Point strategy for moving forward as a church.  I feel like we have a clear direction and we know how to pray moving forward.  Step 1 is to find a larger ministry.  Let’s pray that God will lead us to place where we can get everything under 2 roofs (The Worship Gathering on Sunday mornings at OCTC and a place to do everything else).  We believe God can do this, let’s begin to pray specifically that The Lord will do this.  Step 2 will be to begin work on finding the next staff member, ideally this may be a youth and children’s minister to give oversight to our youth and kids as we grow.  We have not begun work on this or are ready to present anything, but just our second step in the plan.  Step 3 involves finding and purchasing land.  This is the final step of the strategy, with securing a larger ministry center and then a staff member coming first and second.  I believe we now have a clear path and we know what to pray for.  We understand that God can completely mess this up, but we sense this is the game-plan and will pursue unless he blesses in another way or changes our course.
  • We also voted to allow up 15k to be spent  to be involved in the Owensboro BBQ festival.  We are doing more than just cooking!  We are going to do something very different and for the Kingdom!  We plan on taking 100% of the profits (everything above what it takes to break even) and donating it to Sunrise Children’s Services (Our Kentucky Baptist Convention Foster and Adoption Agency).  They do a tremendous work and we believe that God will be honored.  To our knowledge, we do not know of any other churches that donate their profits to a ministry.  We will be doing something very different in the life of Owensboro, but it fits our church and our mission well (Connecting, Caring, and Changing).  We will need several helpers and hands to pull this off, but I believe God is going to do a great work!
  • It was a great Family Meeting and we felt God’s Spirit amongst us.  (And by the way….we are also thankful for the awesome Burgoo!  Thanks Robbie Burns and Bruce Hutchinson!  If that’s what you guys are serving at the BBQ Festival there is no doubt we are going to bless Sunrise!)
I am also happy to announce that our church will begin offering Financial Peace University Classes!  They will begin on April 3rd on Sunday evenings and will be held at the Logsdon Center.  FPU is all about being a good steward of your finances and learning how to get out of debt from a Biblical perspective.  It works!  My wife and I have been able to pay off all our debt, including two student loans, from a private Christian college, (all except our house) using these principals.  Being debt free opens you up to financial peace!  The cost of the class is $93, that’s a price set by the Dave Ramsey group.  You will need to order your materials and register for the class before attending.  I’d recommend getting registered in the next couple of weeks to make sure you have enough time to get your material in.  You can register online using our church website
It really is amazing to see what God is doing.  Let’s keep praying for God’s Spirit to be present among us.  I want to begin praying that God will bless us with a larger ministry center.
It’s a pleasure to be your Pastor!
