Weekly Update 8/20/15

Off

Greetings Life Community,

School is back in session and we are “back to the basics”. We have completed two of the five purposes for our lives on Sunday mornings (worship and ministry). We will be continuing this series on Sunday as we begin to explore the purposes of evangelism, fellowship, and discipleship. It is an encouraging thought to know that when The Lord saves us, He gives us meaning and purpose. I hope you can keep making it out to discover why God has placed you on this earth.

This Saturday, at 9am, we will be canvassing The Hearltand Neighborhood to let people know about the upcoming Block Party to be held on August 29th. Come out and help the outreach team spread the word. Our annual block party is a way to minister and bless the people of our original target neighborhood. The Block Party will be held from 1-4 pm on August 29th.

Just a quick reminder that our upcoming Family Meeting will be on August 30th.   It will be held at the Logsdon Center at 5pm. During this meeting we will approve the 2015-2016 budget, elect new team members, vote to amend our by-laws, and elect any new deacons that may have been suggested (deacon suggestions were received for several weeks. From there the current deacon body reviewed all suggestions, compared them to 1 Timothy 3, and will then bring suggestions for any future deacons to be voted on in the meeting).   We will also plan on eating after the meeting so make sure you bring your favorite dish!

Campaign News!

As we are “moving” forward as a church we are also hearing snippits and tidbits about our upcoming Fall Growth Campaign entitled “Movement”. This will be our third yearly campaign, and each year we have seen so much good come out of them. For a series of six weeks we will be intentionally seeking God for revival and awakening while being challenged to break goals, barriers, and to dream bigger than we ever have before. We will be challenged to pray more, to invite more people, and to be in a group.   There will also be several unique elements to this year’s campaign. Campaign Kick off Day will be September 20th (it will serve as a high attendance day, with the prayer that we break 300), I want to encourage you to invite those that do not know The Lord to come. Invite people who are struggling, having a hard time, or need some encouragement. We want this campaign to be about reaching those that need the life changing message of Jesus Christ.

Nathan Booker, who is the weekend service coordinator, for the campaign challenged the church last Sunday to write out their testimonies. Some of you took those hand outs which were in the program home to write out your story. Some of these stories will be selected to be read in the service during the weeks of the campaign (of course with the person’s permission). If you did not get pick up a hard copy of the testimony sheets you can also do one online by following this link….

Jarrod McCarty, our prayer coordinator, would like at least four people to volunteer to host in home prayer meetings two weeks before the campaign. 1 on Tuesday and 1 on Thursday of each week. This house leaders will be responsible for opening up their home for two weeks (either on that Tuesday or that Thursday) for a prayer gathering for the campaign.   People in the church will be encouraged to go to a different home each week.

Life group sign ups are out on Sunday mornings for the campaign as well, I’m excited about the new groups that are being offered and can’t wait to join one myself! The groups will also be having a little bit of “friendly” competition amongst themselves as we collect Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes during the campaign.   You’ll hear more and more about the campaign in upcoming weeks, so just keep your ears and eyes open!

I believe God is doing a great work in our church and I am excited to be your Pastor. I believe God has called me and Taran to have a long ministry with this good church. We are praying that God continues to do a great work and to use you in the process. God bless you all and have a great weekend!
