Prayer Walk
“Devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving” (Colossians 4:2).
LCC!
Wanted to shoot out a special blurb (in addition to our weekly update) in regards to our community prayer walk this upcoming Saturday.
Prayer is critical!!!! Not just for our lives, not just for our church, but also for our community.
This upcoming Saturday (beginning at 9am and ending roughly a little after 10) we will gather at the Springs Medical Center Parking Lot, break into teams, and go to specific places in our community to pray over.
Seeing people and communities “through the eyes of Jesus” starts with prayer. Walking among the people and visiting the places where they live, work and shop will allow God to speak to you about His love for them and their great need for Him.
As your church family scatters throughout the community to pray, you will likely see it in ways you have never seen it before. Your heart will be filled with hope and with brokenness. You will pray for people who may have never been prayed for before. You will experience a deep sensitivity to how God’s Spirit is leading you to pray for and respond to needs of the neglected.
Here’s some FAQ’s about prayer walks I wanted to tackle
Why do we need to pray for our community?
Because our community needs Jesus and Our Community needs us to intercede before God for it. When we pray for our community we are inviting God’s blessing and presence into the area we live.
I don’t know what to pray for?
Don’t worry! We will give you a guide to help you to know how to pray. Your Community Prayer walk may include…
- Confession of sins
- Acknowledging and welcoming God’s presence
- Praying in response to what you see and hear
- Asking at the place of the need, praying silently or aloud
- Praying Scripture
- Praying specific, short, conversational prayers
- Touching the doors of buildings as you pray
- Singing songs of praise and worship
- Stopping for times of reflection, silence or discussion of insights
- Praying from overlook points or other strategic locations
How will it be structured?
- We have pre-planned geographic areas to be prayerwalked.
- We’ll meet at the Springs for instructions, worship and prayer.
- Divide into teams of 2–4, and go to assigned area to prayerwalk.
- Have a “home team” of intercessors who are praying for those who go out to pray.
- Spend 1hour focusing on prayer for your assigned area.
- Return to the Springs to share insights and experiences, and discuss next steps.
- Pray for hopes and needs that were awakened during the prayerwalk.
What if I am not able to physically make the walk?
That’s okay, you can prayer DRIVE! They key is prayer!
What do I need to wear or bring?
Just dress normal and comfortable! No need to wear a tie and ride a bi-cycle!!! Just come as you are. If you bring a Bible, bring one you can tuck in your pocket or some tracts that you can put in your pocket. Remember the goal is prayer.
Will I have to engage people or talk with people?
No, you don’t have to. You may see some people out and may like to invite them to church. That’d be great if you can! But we aren’t canvassing or handing out materials
This weekend I’m kicking off a brand new sermon series entitled “BREAKTHROUGH PRAYER”. I can’t think of a better way to star this series with a Community Prayer walk on Saturday. I hope you make it out as we pray!
9am at the springs!
God bless
