Life Community Update 11-19-15
Greetings Life Community,
We had a fantastic day on Sunday with several additions to our church. We are happy to welcome Mindi Mills, Josh and Alicia Evans, Tina Howard, Shanna Billings, and Logan Evans (who is coming for Baptism). What an exciting time in the lives of these families. We are happy that God has brought them to the family of LCC.
Here are few upcoming events that I’d like for you to be aware of….
Chili Cook off!
I want to remind everyone that this Saturday is our annual Chili Cook off! This has become a fun event that we look forward to every year. It will be held on the campus of the Wendell Foster Center, in their community center at 7pm. We have scheduled it for 7pm for those that want to go to the Christmas parade (so they will still be able to make it). In order for the Chili Cook off to work we will need you to bring a pot of your favorite chili. From there it will be put into the competition to be judged. Last year Mrs. Shelly Cole was the Chili Champion! Will it be you this year???
Also, we plan on presenting the Gospel. My dear friend and Pastor Kyle Franklin (of Pellville Baptist Church) will be giving a short Gospel presentation while they tally up the votes. I encourage you to make this more than just a fun event, bring a friend, a coworker, or a neighbor that is unchurched or does not know The Lord. This will be a fun, safe, and non pressuring environment for them to hear the Good news of Jesus and have a lot of fun! I encourage you to come and bring someone with you! (and of course bring a pot of chili!)
This event is totally free, just come and have a good time!
Christmas Offering is coming!
Every year we participate in an annual Christmas Offering that is received during our Christmas Eve service (which will be held in the facilities of Apollo Heights Baptist Church at 5pm on Christmas Eve) or the week of Christmas Eve if you are not able to attend. This offering is intended to bless mission work all across the globe and here locally. The outreach team has set a goal of $5,000, this is a large amount for our church but we believe we can obtain it through sacrificial giving and God’s grace. 100% of this offering will leave Life Community (25% will go to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering for International Missionaries, 25% will go to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for Missionaries in North America, 25% will go to the Refuge Church Plant in Sellersburg Indiana, and 25% will go to our local Sunrise Christian Children’s Home (to purchase Duffle bags for children to carry their clothes in who are in the foster care system, instead of wal-mart or trash bags).
I am encouraging every family to pray about what they will give to the Christmas offering. The purpose of the offering is sacrificial, meaning that this is above and beyond your normal tithes and offerings. I pray that God does a great work in this offering and I know that you and your family will be blessed as you sacrificially give. I am also very excited to lead my family into giving as I will have the opportunity to teach my children about the value and importance of missions (especially at Christmas time, as Christmas is all about missions, Jesus came to this earth for people to be saved). I know there are a lot of opportunities to give during the Christmas season, but I want to encourage you to put your Church’s Christmas offering as the top priority of giving this year.
We will also try to have the Christmas offering online through our online giving services closer to the date where you can give electronically. Our online giving feature is found on our website, you can set up the giving feature to give regularly your normal Sunday morning tithes and offerings . http://lifeowensboro.com/giving/
Children’s Christmas Program
Remember our children are practicing and working on the Christmas program on Sunday nights at our Kids Life Program. It’s not to late to get your child involved. Kids Life meets every Sunday night at 5pm at the Logsdon Community Center. We have been averaging 40+ kids on Sunday nights (between the kids and the youth)! We encourage you to bring your little ones out. We also encourage our middle school and high school kids to come and participate in Youth Group on Sunday nights at 5pm. The Christmas presentation will be held on December 20th on Sunday morning.
New York Mission Trip is coming!
Mark your calendar for July 9th-16th. Life Community Church will be heading up to Brooklyn New York to help church planter Jon Carr. There will be an NYC information meeting on December 6th @ 5pm at the Logsdon Center in the fire place room for all who are interested. We have 20 spots available for this trip, so the first to show interest will have their spot reserved. We are excited about what God is doing in NYC and we are thankful that we play a small part in supporting mission work there.
Other Christmas Mission opportunities
The Tuesday Night Life Group led by Jordan Boling and Jesse Payne are collecting coats, jackets, gloves, and supplies for the Pitino Shelter. They are encouraging everyone that would like to help to bring in supplies on Sunday mornings. You can drop off supplies at the Guest services table.
If you are interested in sponsoring a child this Christmas season through Sunrise you contact Sam Williams (270-702-0750). There are different levels of sponsorship ($60-$150) that will help children buy Christmas presents for children.
As you can see from this email, our church is a mission minded and mission focused church. We are doing our part to reach out to our own community and across the world for the sake of The Gospel. It was always my prayer that this church would be a church that would make a difference and I believe we are. Let’s keep praying for God’s spirit to show up in our services every Sunday, but let’s also pray that God’s spirit controls our lives as we give glory to Jesus in our community, in our families, and in our work places.
God Bless! See you Sunday!
